What happens inside you when you sit with “ all about Social Justice”? Embodied experiences can inform social justice, and social justice can inform embodied experiences  Let’s get together to share and brainstorm about our experiences using techniques like Focusing to heal and transform social justice-related oppressions that affect us all in so many ways.

Here are some questions that come up for me. What  questions, ideas, and sensings come for you? These topics can be inspiring and also can be painful so, as a group, we can intersperse some inner sensing times throughout the discussion to make sure we maintain a safe enough space to share our embodied musings and visions together. Possible topics to discuss:

  • What is or could be the relationship between embodied practices and social justice?
  • Have you used embodied practices like Focusing skills to help you be with and respond to various oppressions in life?
  • Is Focusing on inner life linked with or separate from external social change?
  • Is an embodied practices like Focusing a practice that can further specific anti-oppression work (e.g. injustices related to race, class, gender, sexuality, indigenous heritage, age, ability, language, and other isms)?
  • What were Gene Gendlin’s views about Focusing and politics?
  • Can embodied practices like Focusing help us to be with and process all that comes up in us in response to the racialized police violence and mass protests that are happening in the U.S. and other countries?
  • What are ways to help people of color and others who face systemic oppression feel welcome and not de-centered in embodied spaces?
  • What are some further ways to continue to develop social justice-informed embodied practices like Focusing?
